Just Say "Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah"
Title: Just Say "Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah"
Author: wishiknewwho
Rating: G
Characters: Ten  / Rose
Dislcaimer: I don't own Doctor Who and it's probably just as well that I don't because it'd be nothing but hugs and hair ruffling for the foreseeable future.  Title taken from Bruno Mars's "Marry You."
Spoilers: None whatsoever.
Summary:  The Doctor makes a convincing argument.
Beta: I forbade salimali from beta-ing this as it is her birthday fic.  She did give a few pointers, but any mistakes are entirely my fault.
Author Notes: So, um...hi!  I haven't been around in ages.  Turns out this full-time job thing is hard, but very fulfilling.  I'm slowly easing myself back into the community, so with any luck I'll be around here and there.  This story was written for the lovely and amazing salimali for her birthday.  She is the bees knees and I love her bunches.  It is fluffy beyond fluff.  You have been warned.

Rose was sitting on the captain’s chair, her feet perched ungracefully on the console, a paperback propped between her thumb and forefinger. The Doctor was buried under the time rotor, lost somewhere in the wires, his shoes the only visible part of him. She alternated her gaze between the book that was growing more boring with each page she turned, her toenails that needed a fresh coat of varnish, and his dingy white trainers moving apart and together, apart and together as he worked.

She could hear him humming and talking to himself as he worked out how to fix yet another problem with his ship. She didn’t pay him much attention, though, just took comfort in him being there.

She was seconds away from putting down her novel and setting off for the library in search of something more interesting when his trainers gave a decisive tap against the grating and he wormed himself out from under the console. He grinned at her as he emerged, his hair even messier than usual and a smudge of grease on his cheek.

“All fixed?” she asked, matching his grin. His smiles were infectious.

“Good as new,” he answered, tapping something into the keyboard and then checking the monitor. “She’s all ready to go.”

“Brilliant,” she said, letting her feet drop from the edge of the console and discarding her book on the seat next to her. “I’ll go get my shoes. Where are we off to?”

“I was thinking,” he started, his eyes drifting to the levers and buttons on the console before meeting hers again.

“Oh nothing good can come from that,” she joked, giving him a playful kick.

Her good mood seemed to bolster him and his eyes met hers. “I was thinking, Rose Tyler, that I’d like to marry you.”

She froze, her hands gripping the seat where she had been preparing to hop down from the chair. Now she feared that her legs wouldn’t support her. He couldn’t be serious.

She must have waited too long to say anything, the shock she was feeling translating to a look of horror on her face, because he took a few tentative steps toward her and grasped her hands in his. “Don’t say no yet,” he said quietly. “Just hear me out first.”

Rose wasn’t about to say no, but curious to hear his argument, she kept quiet. Slowly, for effect, she raised an eyebrow.

“Okay, well obviously and most importantly, I’m mad about you,” he said, grinning widely.

“Just mad?” she drawled, letting him move in closer.

“Well, not just mad about you. Over the moon, head over heels, all those human clichés you use to say you love someone.” He let go of her hands, tucked her hair behind her ears, and pressed a quick kiss to her mouth.

She felt her heart stutter. “So you’re saying you love me?” she whispered.

“And how, Rose Tyler,” he said plainly. She started to reply, to tell him that she loved him too and more than he could know, but he went on before she could reply. “Second, it makes sense. We live together, eat all our meals together, travel together, do other things together,” at that he gave an exaggerated wink, “so nothing would really change. Only you’d have a ring and that would tell at least 47.9% of the universe that you are taken. It would deter all of those men who insist on flirting with you.” He frowned at that.

“Oh there aren’t that many,” she said, flushing.

“Only because I scare them off,” he said, pouting a bit. “Reason C. Or three. Or something. I think your mum would be a lot more forgiving when we tell her about us if it is official.”

Rose stifled a laugh. “Really? You think that’s the best way to go about it, huh? Have you met my mother, Doctor?”

He frowned. “Well, you do have a point. Really I don’t think there’s any way to make her happy. But if we’re married, it’ll be a little harder for her to kill me, what with me being family and all.”

She giggled. “I suppose you’re right. Any more reasons?” she asked.

“Just one,” he said. He was smiling, but she could tell he’d turned serious again. “You make me happy, Rose. Happier than I thought I would ever be. And while I don’t think marrying you could come even close to showing you how much you mean to me, it’s the best I can do.”

Rose bit her lip and brushed at the tears threatening to escape. “Doctor,” she said, her voice shaky.

He pulled her to him, wrapping her securely in his arms. “Don’t say no, Rose,” he whispered softly in her ear. “Just say yes.”

She pulled back a fraction of an inch and kissed him sweetly. When she opened her eyes, she saw him watching her carefully, all of his love and hope swimming in his eyes. With him looking at her like that, there was only one thing she could say.

He swung her around until she was dizzy, then put her down and pushed her off toward the wardrobe room. “Go get dressed. I’ll find us the perfect place.”

And just like that, they got married.

Ah, Scheherazade, how I have missed you. And I'm behind on a ton of your lovely writing. You didn't tell me that being a teacher would involve so much work. ;) Nice to see you again, and thanks for reading.
